ભારત રત્ન લતા મંગેશકરનો જન્મ 28 સપ્ટેમ્બર 1929ના રોજ ઈન્દોરના શીખ મહોલ્લામાં થયો હતો. જે ઘરમાં તેમનો જન્મ થયો હતો તે ઘર વાઘ સાહેબ કે બડા તરીકે જાણીતું હતું. લતાનો પરિવાર સાત વર્ષની ઉંમર સુધી આ ઘરમાં રહેતો હતો. આજે આ ઘર કાપડના શોરૂમમાં ફેરવાઈ ગયું છે. લતા મંગેશકરની સ્મૃતિને ચિરંજીવ બનાવવા માટે કપડાની દુકાનમાં ભીંતચિત્રો પણ લગાવવામાં આવ્યા છે.
લતા મંગેશકરની પ્રથમ રજૂઆત ઈન્દોરમાં અખિલ ભારતીય કૃષિ અને ઉદ્યોગ પ્રદર્શનમાં થઈ હતી. જેમાં ટિકિટનો દર દોઢ રૂપિયાથી 25 રૂપિયા રાખવામાં આવ્યો હતો. તેના પિતા દીનાનાથ મંગેશકરની પુણ્યતિથિ પર લતાના ભાઈ હદયનાથ મંગેશકર અને બહેન ઉષા મંગેશકરે પણ એક જ મંચ પરથી પરફોર્મ કર્યું હતું.
